Netscape-Gecko and the Symbol font
The Symbol font is used in some places on this web. If you use a Netscape 6 or later browser that does not support the Symbol font, use the Windows search command to find the directory on your computer in which the file fontEncoding.properties is located. At the command prompt type cd\ followed immediately (no space) by the full name of the directory. Once in the directory containing the file, type "edit fontEncoding.properties". Scroll down to the line in this file that reads
encoding.symbol.ttf = Adobe-Symbol-Encoding
change it to read
encoding.symbol.ttf = windows-1252
when Netscape is restarted the symbol font will be enabled. For more, and further options, cf. http://hutchinson.belmont.ma.us/tth/Wfonts.html
